To take care of the lake near your shore, it is recommended to maintain a buffer zone of dense beneficial vegetation. Leave a 3-5 foot section above the water level unmowed to allow native grasses and beneficial flowering species to grow. Avoid grass clippings entering the lake as they contain phosphorus that can contribute to algae growth. Follow the Hidden Harbour Lawn and Fertilizer guidelines and communicate these best practices to your service providers.

To clean your boat near the lake, it is recommended to follow these best practices:

  • Remove all organic waste manually or with a vacuum before using a hose or pressure washer.

  • Avoid using soap or detergent directly in the lake or drains to prevent algal blooms and harm to fish.

  • If using a pressure washer, use water only, and when cleaning the interior, soak up the mess with a towel or wet vac. Remember to consider these guidelines to protect the lake's water quality and ecosystem.
